Can we meet in the middle???

Compromise.  Such a heavy word isn't it.  The mere thought of it makes most of us clench our teeth.  This word, this concept is throw around so much; especially in relationships.

How many times have you heard that the key to making a relationship work is compromise?  That in order to be happy together you will sometimes have to give up what you want.  How many times?

Well, I'm here to day to tell you that it's all bullshit.  Lies.  Falsehoods.  You may be asking yourself how that could be.  How so many people could have gotten it wrong?  And who was I to think I know the truth?  Let me explain.

See the problem is how we look at compromise, what we think it means.  When we think of compromising, we think it means letting the other person have their way.  That is wrong.  That is VERY wrong.

Read that definition. . both uses.  Now read them again.

See.  Compromise is not at all what you've been told.  It's not about giving in and letting someone have their way.  It's about mutual concession. Let me break this down.  Each side, both parties must give something up in order for it to be compromise.

That's right, it involves both people.  Let's call it meeting in the middle.  It does not mean you give someone else their way.  That is the total opposite of compromise.

So the next time someone tells you to compromise, make sure you are both doing it correctly
