In defense of feminism

There has been a lot of talk about feminism as of late.  Time after time I hear this word throw around like a weapon.  It is used with such a negative connotation.  It makes me wonder how many people really know what feminism really is.

According to Websters dictionary, feminism can be defined as such:

Noun1.feminism - a doctrine that advocates equal rights for women
2.feminism - the movement aimed at equal rights for women

That definition sounds pretty positive to me.  Why shouldn't women have equal rights?  Don't we all deserve that?  For some odd reason, this definition has gotten flipped turned upside down over the years.  Nowadays, when you hear the word feminism it is in reference to the man hating I don't need nobody kind of woman.  It is used to demean her and her kind.  To say they are what's wrong with society.

Well, if you ask me, that is just plain bullshit.

Feminism is the belief that women can and should do whatever they damn well please.  That being born with a womb doesn't mean you should be paid less than a man for doing the same quality of work.  Feminism is the idea that my gender shouldn't hold me back in any way.  It means that a woman can follow the traditions we all grew up with; where the man is the head of the house and it is a wife's job to serve him.  It means that she can also be more modern and take the lead in her household and/or relationship.  Like I said earlier, she can do whatever she damn well pleases.

Am I feminist?  You better believe it.  And I will wear that badge proudly until women are seen as a man's equal, in every way possible.
