Pet Peeves
What's on my mind today?? Pet peeves. . .you know the things that people do or say that annoy you beyond measure. I have a list of them so long that it could probably fill and epic novel. That list is constantly changing. . .mostly growing (sadly). It just seems that these days people do so many annoying things that I can't even keep up with them.
So the one that is really bothering me right now. . .when you ask someone a question and they answer a totally different question. I mean a response that in no way answers the question you asked. It might be on the same topic, but only slightly. Does this ever happen to you? An example would probably be appropriate right about now. Hmm. Ok, I'm drawing a blank right now, but it has happened to me many times. When it happens I'm usually pretty sure I asked a very direct question. One that I didn't think anyone could get confused about, but apparently I'm wrong.
Anyway, that's my pet peeve for today. What are some of your pet peeves???

One of my pet peeves is having a conversation with someone about race at a party when that person has been drinking.
ReplyDeleteNow I have been, on occasion, been the "only Black friend" or OBF at some parties back in college and some work social functions. Please don't come up to me and tell me how you love black people and try to get philosphic when you are 3 sheets to the wind. You going to say something stupid.
And makes you assume that this is how I want to spend my night talking about this subject when I could be hooking up with the hottie in the mini skit.
I was at a party in college and some goof ball ask if I felt awkward being the OBF at the party. Mind you, the party was early and more diverse people came later. I looked at him and asked how it felt to be the only douche not getting laid tonight. I guess I didn't make a friend that night.
Sam, I LOVE your response. That sounds like something I would've said...especialky if alcohol was involved. You see so right though, a party with drinking is no place for discussions on race.
ReplyDeleteI often feel like being a "white-friendly" black person makes people think they can open up the race issues box whenever they want. It's almost like they think we're/i'm on their side. Sometimes I just wanna scream "getting along with you doesn't negate my blackness or change the fact that their issues are my issues"
Exactly. I had this discussion with my wife. White people can go their whole lives without know one black person. So, when we comes in their lives, some of them don't know how to treat us.
